How does it work?
1) Bands and artists register on The Signal's Web site (www.the-signal.com) and post their video clips, bio text and contact info on the contest entry page.
2) There is a Pro category for professional bands and aspiring musicians and an Amateur category for cover bands and weekend players.
A third category is Best Video.
3) After the submission period, the contest will be opened to all for voting. There will be a limit of five votes per day per each unique, registered and legitimate email address. Invalid email addresses will be disqualified..
4) Once voting has ended, the TOP THREE vote-getting artists/bands in each of the Pro and Am categories and the Best Video category will be judged by a panel of real-live expert judges at the grand finale -- the "SCV Rock Star Night" event at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Friday, Sept. 19, 2008.
5) The judges will START with the number of votes, then assign ADDITIONAL POINTS for:
-- Sound quality
-- Video quality
-- Originality of music
-- Creativity of presentation
6) At the end of the judging, the points will be tallied and a winner determined, one Pro, and one Am, and one video.
In the event of a tie, the judges will vote until a winner is determined. There will be no duplicate winners.
7) The Pro and Am finalists will perform live at the SCV Rock Star Night concert Sept. 19, at which the First-, Second- and Third-prize winners will be announced and awards presented. .
The three Best Video finalists will be screened, and the winners will be announced and awarded in the same way.
8) PRIZES:
-- Recording time at Command Recording Studios
-- Rehearsal time at Hubbadaddy's Studios
-- Pro photo session by Paige Photography
-- Headlining show produced by Higher Level
-- Performance-based music video by Artistry Cinematics & La Lu Productions
-- Feature story with photos in The Signal's Escape section, and posted on The Signal Web site following Third Friday performance
-- One-year subscription to The Signal (home-delivered)
